The current was a tough one, headed from the north of Brunot Island in the Ohio, out to the Hot Metal Bridge in the Monongahela.

Why we swim

OUR race in OUR beloved city

The 3RMS is hosted by Team Forever. Profit from the swim goes to the Forever Fund, which helps local families cover the costs associated with infant cardiothoracic surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Since 2013 the race has been an invitation to the marathon swimming community to visit the City of Steel and swim our rivers — and the entry cost has been held at the same level year over year since the beginning.

Volunteers

This race runs on volunteers

Kayakers, guide boat pilots, photographers, medics, lunch crew, buoy pickup, cheering section. Some of our volunteers have no affiliation to anyone swimming and give up their entire day to help.

From the race director

“When I am asked ‘Why would someone want to swim 18 miles, across the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny?’, the answer for me is simple – to appreciate the opportunity to never stop exploring what is possible. It is a gift to have the health, the desire, and the ability, but also, to inspire others, through their incredible journey, to achieve their dreams.”

— Darren E. Miller, 3RMS Founder and Race Director
